Louis To Wun
Louis To Wun, also known as "Sugarman," is a Hong Kong-based artist renowned for his mastery of traditional Chinese sugar sculpting, a centuries-old craft where molten sugar is molded into intricate figurines. Originally from Chaozhou, his fascination with the art began during his childhood, and through self-taught experimentation, he perfected the delicate craft despite numerous challenges. He gained prominence for preserving this cultural heritage, running a shop on Cheung Chau Island and showcasing his work in media features, including the South China Morning Post. Beyond sugar art, To is also skilled in painting and bamboo sculpture and co-founded Sense99, a cultural hub in Hong Kong. His dedication has revitalized a fading tradition, inspiring new appreciation for this unique art form.
